CUBE DANCER

Introduction

This is my capstone project of the “Udacity Virutal Reality Developer Nanodegree” program with focus on software development for high-end VR hardware. CUBE DANCER is a VR rhythm game, that puts you in dance battles against mysterious opponents. Each with its own unique dance style. The goal is to study their moves. Hit all the cubes that are thrown at you. And become the best cube dancer of them all.

Outcomes

In three unique levels the player faces three different cube dancers. Each of them with its own dance style that features for example “Gangnam Style” or Michael Jacksons “Thriller” moves. The music is provided by three amazing artist, who decided to put their music under creative commons licensing:

Six Umbrellas // Broke for Free // Varia

The game mechanics are introduced by a cube named Hank. At the beginning he is mocking the player and implements to hit him. In this story based tutorial the user learns the one simple game mechanic: “hitting cubes”. In each level the number of struck cubes is added to a score. At the end Hank comments on the final score. There are four different outcomes, depending on how well the player did.

Because this was my final capstone project several requirements had to be achieved in order to get my nanodegree in virtual reality development. In the following video all achievements of the project are listed.

Starcollector VR

Introduction

This project was developed in the framework of the Udacity VR Developer Nanodegree program with focus on software development for High End VR Hardware like HTC Vive and Occulus Rift. StarCollector VR is a physics based puzzle game. The task of the game is to collect all available stars with a ball and then hit a goal on the ground. The player can spawn different objects to create a Rube Goldberg chain reaction that enables the ball to collect all of the stars without touching the ground. See the “Walkthrough Video” bellow for clarification.

Outcomes

The 4 unique levels were created in Tilt Brush and then implemented in the Unity Engine. All levels react to the music and provide a appealing light show while the player is solving the puzzles (Music by Six Umbrellas (CC)). The level of difficulty rises as the player proceeds. Up to four different object types need to be handled in order to achieve the goal.

The VR Museum

Introduction

This is the fifth project of the Udacity VR Developer Nanodegree program with focus on VR research. The task was not only to build a VR experience in Unity3D, but also to research companies/applications, or industries that could be impacted by VR. It is also required to document the process from initial sketches to design considerations and through to including video and screenshots of the final game.

Outcomes

For this project, I chose “Light Field Camera” as my topic, and created a virtual museum to display details and facts about it. The player finds himself on a abstract little island where she can find out more about this subject. After a short introduction the user can freely move to different places where information is provided via audio, video and text boxes.

The Riddle – A Mobile VR Experience

Introduction

This is the fourth project of the Udacity VR Developer Nanodegree program with focus on VR Design. The task was not only to build a VR experience in Unity3D but also to document the process from  initial sketches to design considerations and through to including video and screenshots of the final game.

Outcomes

Due to problems with implementing the given code for a „Simon Says“ like puzzle, I coded a much simpler text riddle myself, based on the things I learned about interaction with interfaces during the course. The player enters a mysterious dungeon to solve a ancient riddle with the intend to reach the exit on the other side.
